START A BUSINESS

Revisit this space often for ideas in search of entrepreneurs. The ideas are, as billed, free for the taking:

Mobile corner stores

Large food stores deliver big orders and convenience. Corner stores – the places one could walk to and purchase bread, coffee and milk – may never return. Still, 'mobile corner stores' would be nice.

Residents of densely populated neighborhoods, which are surrounded by congested roadways, would welcome a van that arrives once or twice each week to sell the basics of life. (Dish detergent, tea, peanut butter and dogfood would all be on the roster.)

Coffee shops and long-term care facilities – Open niche (huge)

Start a coffee shop in a nursing home or assisted living center. Create a vital link between the community and residents. A franchise would be fine. So would a startup.

Build a trommel for the gardener

Call it a trommel, a sieve or a screen, but gardeners who weed and separate soil need a reliable device.

Mending bags

A torn seam, missing buttons, zippers demanding to be replaced… Not everyone likes to sew. Collect customers mending in standardized bags. Set prices in advance for basic repairs; charge more for special challenges.
